Egypt and Jordan have officially launched the “Coral Bridge” submarine cable, their first direct digital link in over 25 years. The landing took place in Egypt’s Taba on Saturday and was attended via videoconference by Egypt’s ICT Minister Amr Talaat and Jordan’s Digital Economy Minister Sami Al-Samirat.
Spanning 15 kilometers across the Gulf of Aqaba, the high-capacity system is built with advanced optical fibers capable of supporting the surging demand from artificial intelligence applications and global data centers. The cable also facilitates uninterrupted international data traffic connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Developed in partnership between Telecom Egypt and Jordan’s Naitel, the project reinforces both nations’ roles as regional digital hubs. It also provides alternative routes and redundancy for enterprises and cloud service providers, ensuring greater network resilience and capacity for future growth.
