Türk Telekom Reports Record Mobile Growth as 5G Era Nears

Türkiye’s leading telecom operator Türk Telekom has posted strong Q2 2025 results, highlighting record mobile gains, expanding fiber infrastructure, and readiness for the country’s upcoming 5G rollout and concession renewal.

Financial and Subscriber Growth

  • Consolidated revenue surged 13.2% year-on-year to TL 50.4 billion ($1.23 billion).
  • EBITDA rose 23% to TL 21.3 billion, with a margin of 42.2%.
  • Net profit increased 14.2% to TL 4.9 billion.
  • Mobile services drove growth, with 678,000 net adds in Q2 alone, lifting the mobile base to 28.5 million.
  • Over the past year, Türk Telekom gained 2.5 million postpaid subscribers, with Q2 delivering the largest quarterly postpaid gain in company history at 810,000 new users.

Infrastructure and 5G Readiness
Türk Telekom now operates a 496,000 km fiber backbone, covering 33.5 million households, with 54% of LTE base stations fiber-connected. This positions the telco strongly for Türkiye’s 5G spectrum auction expected in 2025 and the broader rollout planned for 2026.

CEO Ümit Önal emphasized that the company is fully prepared for the transition:
“Our fiber backbone, industry expertise, and LTE base stations — 54% already fiber-connected — ensure that we are fully prepared for 5G and the opportunities it will bring.”

The operator spent TL 13.3 billion in Q2 capex, bringing first-half investments to TL 21.8 billion. Since 2005, cumulative investments in Türkiye’s digitalization have reached $22 billion.

Concession Renewal
A key milestone ahead is the renewal of Türk Telekom’s fixed-line concession, which gives it control of around 80% of Türkiye’s fiber network. The agreement, set to expire in 2026, is close to being extended for another 25 years, ensuring long-term infrastructure leadership.

Competitive Landscape
Rival Turkcell is preparing to enter the 5G era with 5G-Advanced (5G-A) services, according to CEO Ali Taha Koç. He noted that licensing is expected in 2025, with commercial rollout in 2026, positioning Turkcell to deliver advanced mobile broadband and drive nationwide digitalization.
