Bangladesh has entered a new phase of connectivity with the launch of Starlink’s satellite-based internet service for corporate clients. Eastern Bank became the first bank to adopt the service, joining over 20 organizations including Ibn Sina Group, Channel 24, and Ananta Group. The service is delivered via a ground station in Kaliakoir, Gazipur, which hosts 80 antennas, making it the largest Starlink ground station globally and capable of extending coverage to neighboring countries.
The rollout is being facilitated by Felicity IDC Limited, a sister concern of Fiber@Home, offering high-priority corporate packages with four times the prioritization of regular users. Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) is also central to the expansion, appointing reseller partners under strict eligibility requirements, including Tk3 crore deposits. Robi Axiata became the first authorized reseller, committing to deliver both enterprise solutions and rural community Wi-Fi.
While corporates move cautiously due to high costs, retail service adoption is growing, particularly among freelancers and entrepreneurs. Starlink retail packages are priced at Tk6,000 and Tk4,200 per month, with a Tk49,500 hardware kit. Additional ground stations in Jessore, Cox’s Bazar, and Mymensingh will further strengthen coverage.
Industry observers say Starlink could disrupt Bangladesh’s internet market by addressing long-standing service gaps, offering high-speed, low-latency connections in hard-to-reach areas. However, high costs may limit adoption to enterprises, affluent households, and remote institutions unless prices are reduced.
