Oman Charts a Digital-First Path to Achieve Vision 2040 Goals

At the COMEX 2025 Summit in Muscat, Oman placed digital transformation at the heart of its Vision 2040 strategy, highlighting innovation, futuristic infrastructure, and technology-driven growth as essential for national progress. The forum, themed “Digital Transformation and Futuristic Infrastructure”, underscored the shift from traditional practices to a fully digital-first future.

Ali al Lamki, Digital and IT Director at Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), emphasized that Vision 2040 is about more than adopting technology—it represents a complete redefinition of how industries function, innovate, and deliver value. “Digital transformation is central to success, reshaping how work is done, how ideas emerge, and how value is created for people, partners, and the nation,” he said.

The energy sector was spotlighted as a critical driver of this change. With global demand for cleaner, more efficient energy solutions, Oman is advancing digital applications such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT, and cloud computing. These technologies enable predictive maintenance, operational optimization, and reduced risks, ensuring resilience and competitiveness.

Emerging tools like Digital Twins and Generative AI platforms are already reshaping workflows, offering real-time performance monitoring, enhanced productivity, and on-demand knowledge access. Automation, robotics, drones, and blockchain are further boosting security, supply chain transparency, and cost efficiency.

Al Lamki stressed that these are not incremental upgrades but fundamental reinventions of how industries operate. By embedding digital transformation into every sector, Oman is building a knowledge economy, empowering national talent, and positioning itself as a regional innovation hub aligned with the aspirations of Vision 2040.
