Nepal Telecom (NT) has announced a tender for a new IPTV and OTT service platform, signaling its move to operate the service independently. The tender, issued on September 23, 2025, invites electronic bids for the delivery, installation, and commissioning of the IPTV system and accessories.
The decision comes as NT’s existing contract with Kalash (Nepal) and VNPT Technology (Vietnam)—a partnership formed in 2019—expires at the end of 2025. The collaboration, initially signed for five years, was extended beyond 2024 to cover NT’s current IPTV service, NT TV, which operates on a revenue-sharing model with partners.
Under the new tender, NT intends to deploy its own IPTV and OTT platforms with complete control over infrastructure, management, and service delivery. The scope of work includes designing, supplying, installing, and commissioning IPTV systems with set-top boxes, encoders, transcoders, and OTT apps, as well as migrating existing subscriber data to the new system. The management system will be hosted on NT’s private cloud.
NT TV, launched in January 2021 as part of the Triple Play service (fiber internet, IPTV, and telephony), currently offers over 185 HD and SD TV channels. The company stresses that the new system must support both Subscription Video-on-Demand (SVOD) and Advertising-Based Video-on-Demand (AVOD) services. Importantly, current subscribers with existing set-top boxes will continue to receive uninterrupted service during the transition.
By moving away from revenue-sharing agreements and adopting an in-house IPTV platform, Nepal Telecom expects to improve channel offerings, enhance user experience, and gain full operational autonomy over its digital TV services.
