The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the Sultanate of Oman has initiated the trial phase of its Central Number Portability System, a milestone reform allowing consumers to switch mobile service providers without changing their existing numbers.
The experimental rollout, running from October 19 to November 13, aims to enhance flexibility and customer choice within Oman’s telecom sector. By decoupling number ownership from service providers, users can now choose operators based on service quality, coverage, and customer experience rather than being tied to a specific carrier.
According to the TRA, the trial phase will help identify and resolve potential technical and operational challenges before a nationwide launch. The full rollout is expected to boost market competition, encourage innovation in service delivery, and improve overall user convenience.
This initiative is part of Oman’s broader effort to promote consumer empowerment and digital transformation within the telecom industry, aligning with national objectives to strengthen connectivity and service quality across the country.
