Oppo Launches Smartphone Production at New Egypt Factory Under “Egypt Makes Electronics” Initiative

Cairo, October 28, 2025Oppo has officially commenced smartphone production at its newly inaugurated 24,000-square-metre factory in Egypt, marking a major step forward in the nation’s growing electronics manufacturing sector. The opening ceremony was led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening local industry through the “Egypt Makes Electronics” initiative.

Backed by a US$50 million investment, the Oppo facility currently employs 2,000 workers and has a production capacity of 400,000 smartphones per month, equivalent to 4.8 million units annually. Plans are already underway to expand output to 500,000 units per month as demand scales.

The factory represents a key component of Egypt’s broader strategy to reduce imports, enhance export potential, and establish itself as a regional hub for electronics manufacturing. The initiative has already attracted multiple global players to set up local assembly lines for mobile phones, tablets, and fiber optic cables, contributing to the government’s goals of economic diversification and job creation.

Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted that Egypt now hosts 15 mobile device and accessories brands with a combined annual capacity of 20 million units and total investments of roughly US$20 million. These developments, he noted, are central to efforts to cut costs, curb grey-market imports, and make devices more affordable for consumers.

Oppo’s Egypt facility reinforces the company’s long-term vision to localize production and support Egypt’s transformation into a competitive electronics manufacturing hub for the MENA region.
