Oman has reaffirmed its position as a strategic global hub for digital connectivity, driven by Omantel’s decade-long transformation from a national telecom operator into an integrated technology powerhouse. The nation’s growing role was spotlighted at the Middle East Global Carrier Community Meeting (ME GCCM) 2025, hosted in Muscat by Omantel and Zain Omantel International (ZOI) — marking the fifth time the event has been held in the Sultanate.
The conference brought together more than 1,000 international leaders from global carriers, hyperscalers, and technology providers, underscoring Oman’s emergence as a key meeting point for global networks and a trusted low-latency connectivity hub linking the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Through sustained investments and strategic partnerships, Omantel has built one of the region’s most advanced wholesale ecosystems, integrating subsea cables, landing stations, data centres, and terrestrial networks. This infrastructure enables seamless, high-capacity routes supporting global data flows and digital collaboration.
Among Omantel’s key assets are its carrier-neutral data centres, including MC1 in Barka and SN1 in Salalah, developed in partnership with Equinix. These facilities expand Oman’s hosting capacity for cloud, content, and hyperscaler services, enhancing regional access for international carriers and supporting cloud computing, edge infrastructure, and content distribution.
At the heart of this evolution is Zain Omantel International (ZOI), a joint venture combining Omantel’s international wholesale ecosystem with Zain Group’s regional presence across eight markets. Serving more than 50 million customers, ZOI acts as a unified platform for carriers, cloud providers, and hyperscalers, simplifying global connectivity into and across the Middle East.
This integrated approach—bridging subsea systems, terrestrial infrastructure, and data centre capabilities—has established Oman as a digital nexus for international data exchange. Backed by Omantel’s vision and ZOI’s regional expansion, the Sultanate continues to shape the future of global network interconnection, digital resilience, and sustainable data infrastructure.
