Indosat, Nokia, and NVIDIA Launch AI-RAN Research Center to Power Indonesia’s Digital Future

Surabaya, Indonesia – Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Nokia, and NVIDIA have inaugurated a new AI-RAN Research Center to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence into telecommunications networks. The initiative marks the first Nokia–NVIDIA AI-RAN collaboration site in Asia, building on a partnership unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2025.

Under the theme “AI made by Indonesians for Indonesians,” the center supports Indonesia’s Golden Indonesia Vision 2045, aiming to develop homegrown AI talent and drive nationwide digital transformation. The facility will develop AI-powered Radio Access Networks (RAN) using NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms and Nokia’s advanced RAN technology within Indosat’s commercial network.

The new infrastructure enables software-defined RAN and AI applications to run on the same platform, connecting seamlessly to Indosat’s sovereign AI Factory. It also creates an AI Grid—a distributed computing ecosystem linking datacenters and 5G networks to bring AI closer to users for real-time performance, efficiency, and scalability.

Beyond telecoms, the AI-RAN center will power innovations in education, healthcare, and agriculture, while fostering AI-driven optimization of wireless networks. The initiative represents a strategic investment in Indonesia’s human capital, offering hands-on training, mentorship, and research opportunities to build the next generation of AI and telecom specialists.

Leaders from the government and partner companies underscored the project’s national importance. Vikram Sinha, CEO of Indosat, called it a foundation for AI-driven growth “delivered at the edge, in a sovereign manner.” Nezar Patria, Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, said it reinforces Indonesia’s digital sovereignty, while Nokia’s Pallavi Mahajan and NVIDIA’s Ronnie Vasishta highlighted the global significance of re-architecting networks for the AI era.
