Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has introduced the Central Number Portability System, enabling mobile subscribers to switch operators while retaining their existing phone numbers. The new platform supports national digital transformation goals by streamlining the process and allowing transfers to be completed within minutes in line with international best practices.
The mechanism enhances market flexibility by giving customers greater control in choosing preferred services and encouraging operators to improve offerings. The system provides a clear regulatory framework to ensure compliance and maintain service continuity during the transition.
To port a number, users must clear outstanding bills with their current operator, submit a transfer request with the new provider, confirm via text message, and keep their old SIM active until service migration completes. The initiative is expected to elevate customer satisfaction, stimulate sector competition, and attract further telecom investment in Oman.
