The SeaMeWe-6 subsea cable has officially landed in Pakistan, with the system arriving at Hawkes Bay, Karachi, according to updates shared by employees of Transworld Associates.
The 21,700 km Europe-to-Asia cable will connect Singapore (Tuas) to France (Marseille), crossing terrestrial routes in Egypt and featuring 17 landing points across the Middle East, South Asia, Europe and Southeast Asia. First announced in 2022, SeaMeWe-6 is designed to deliver 12.6 Tbps per fiber pair across 10 fiber pairs and is expected to go live next year.
Landing partners include Beyon, Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC, Bharti Airtel, Mobily, Microsoft, Orange, Singtel, Transworld Associates and others across 16 countries.
Pakistan’s landing station in Hawkes Bay is operated by Transworld, which already owns the TW1 cable and is part of the SeaMeWe-5 consortium. The company also runs a cable landing facility and data center in Keamari Town, Karachi, under the ownership of Orastar Limited and the Omani Omzest Group.
Transworld deputy CEO Saad Waraich said the company remains committed to supporting Pakistan’s Digital Nation initiatives by investing in advanced infrastructure, including submarine systems and AI-enabled data centers. He noted that two major cables — 2Africa and SeaMeWe-6 — have landed at the company’s facility within the last 12 months.
Pakistan now hosts nine international submarine cables, all landing in Karachi, reinforcing the city’s position as the nation’s primary international connectivity gateway.
