Bangladesh Drafts New AI Policy to Guide Government Use, Says Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb

Bangladesh is developing a national policy to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across government offices, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT. He made the announcement while speaking as chief guest at the Bangladesh TechConnect Summit 2025, jointly organised by the ICT Division and Huawei in Dhaka.

Taiyeb said Bangladesh’s digital transformation has gained new momentum in recent months, with the government seeking to improve service delivery through stronger digital integration and better coordination among ministries. He noted that a central monitoring cell is being planned to streamline digital services and ensure smoother transitions across government agencies.

The summit convened policymakers, regulators, and private-sector leaders to explore how emerging technologies—AI, 5G, cloud computing, IoT, and fintech—are reshaping governance and the economy. Under the theme “Building a prosperous, innovative and inclusive Bangladesh through excellence in ICT,” the event highlighted the country’s ambitions to accelerate innovation-led growth.

Speakers included Additional Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, who presented the ICT Division’s strategic roadmap, and Julian Gorman, Head of GSMA Asia Pacific, who discussed regional digital inclusion. Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director Md Abu Sayed outlined the ongoing push for enterprise digital transformation.

A high-level panel moderated by ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury brought together representatives from BTRC, mobile operators, and Jason Wu, CEO of Huawei South Asia and Huawei Bangladesh. Discussions focused on strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing cybersecurity, and enabling wider adoption of advanced technologies.

TechConnect 2025 builds on the long-standing partnership between the ICT Division and Huawei, formalized further through a 2025 MoU aimed at innovation, capacity building, and ecosystem development. Huawei reaffirmed its 27-year commitment to Bangladesh’s digital future, having supported key initiatives including the government cloud and the expansion of over 100 public digital services through MyGov.
