The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), together with the European Union Delegation to Egypt, the Government of Finland, Egypt’s Ministry of Industry, and key technology partners — including Orange Group, Nokia, and Cordon — marked two years of progress for the One Circle circular-economy pilot project, launched in 2023.
During an event in Cairo titled “One Circle – Milestones of Change,” stakeholders showcased how the initiative has shifted the ICT sector’s circularity efforts from theory to practical implementation. Through a multi-stakeholder approach involving the private sector, government bodies, and development partners, One Circle has delivered tangible results in repair, refurbishment, and responsible e-waste management.
According to UNIDO, the initiative is transforming the lifecycle of electronic devices by creating economic and social value through refurbished devices and new material-treatment pathways. A major milestone highlighted at the event was the establishment of two new centers:
– A network equipment repair line in partnership with Nokia and DSV
– A smartphone refurbishment center developed alongside Upgrade, E-Tadweer, and Orange Egypt
These facilities mark a significant upgrade of Egypt’s operational infrastructure in the circular ICT sector.
UNIDO Programme Manager Müge Dolun emphasized that One Circle proves circular economic models can work at national scale when public and private partners align. She noted the upcoming expansion plans, new partnerships, and a roadmap through 2026 as the initiative continues to scale impact across Egypt.
