Morocco’s National Security Directorate (DGSN) has rolled out a comprehensive, technology-driven security framework across key host cities ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, reinforcing the country’s readiness to host one of Africa’s largest sporting events.
The strategy integrates advanced surveillance systems with strengthened operational capabilities to ensure public safety throughout the tournament. Major cities including Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, and Tangier have been equipped with intelligent video surveillance networks combining fixed and mobile cameras linked to centralized digital platforms for real-time monitoring. Authorities have deployed 6,000 mobile cameras across 75 priority locations, particularly high-traffic areas, to enhance prevention, rapid intervention, and deterrence.
Stadiums and sports venues have been reinforced with dedicated police stations and command centers, enabling coordinated operations and swift response to any public order incidents. Security measures also include the creation of specialized anti-gang units in Marrakesh and Fez, expanded canine and equestrian teams, and the deployment of sixteen rapid intervention units supported by drone technology.
The DGSN has further modernized its vehicle fleet with the acquisition of 1,025 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and high-technology utility units. In a move reflecting cultural inclusion, the visual identity of 5,000 police vehicles now incorporates the Amazigh language. Additionally, 790 electronic neutralizers have been distributed to regional security commands and the National Judicial Police Brigade to strengthen operational readiness.
These measures underline Morocco’s commitment to delivering a secure, well-coordinated environment that meets international standards for major sporting events, positioning the country as a benchmark for advanced security management in continental tournaments.
