Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) has launched a fully digital passenger journey at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca as part of preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. The initiative is designed to streamline passenger flows, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience during the tournament.
The new system is built on advanced digital and biometric technologies deployed across Terminals 1 and 2. In Terminal 1, ten self bag drop kiosks have been installed for Royal Air Maroc passengers, enabling automated check-in and baggage handling. Terminal 2 features twelve self-service kiosks for passengers traveling without checked luggage, allowing them to complete check-in independently and proceed directly to boarding. Several airlines, including Air Arabia, Saudia, and EgyptAir, have already integrated their systems, improving interoperability and operational efficiency.
The rollout coincides with a sharp rise in passenger traffic linked to AFCON 2025. Between December 8 and 18, Mohammed V International Airport handled a record 292,221 passengers, representing 33.7 percent of Morocco’s total air traffic and underscoring Casablanca’s role as the country’s primary aviation hub during the competition.
These upgrades form part of ONDA’s broader “Décollage 2025” strategy, which aims to fully digitalise Morocco’s airport network. The programme includes the creation of a Digital Factory, deployment of biometric e-gates, and the introduction of a SMART AIRPORT system to monitor infrastructure in real time and anticipate operational disruptions, strengthening efficiency and security across airport operations.
