Telecom subscribers in Pakistan reach 200m: PTA

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that telecom subscribers in Pakistan have reached 200 million, reflecting sustained growth across the sector. In its Annual Report 2024–25, the regulator said broadband connections have crossed 150 million, telecom coverage now exceeds 92 per cent, and broadband penetration has risen above 60 per cent nationwide.

According to the report, total telecom sector revenues have surpassed Rs1 trillion, marking a 12 per cent year-on-year increase. The sector’s contribution to the national exchequer rose to Rs402 billion, up from Rs336 billion in the previous year. Investment in the sector also increased by 9 per cent to $838 million.

PTA data shows that total data consumption reached 27,727 petabytes during 2025, while 95 per cent of cellular networks now operate on 4G technology. International connectivity has strengthened with 17.21 Tbps of available bandwidth, and four new high-capacity submarine cables are being added to enhance regional and global links.

The report also highlighted strong growth in local mobile device manufacturing, with over 95 per cent of handsets now produced domestically, including 68 per cent smartphones. PTA noted improvements in Pakistan’s global cybersecurity ranking and said enhanced consumer protection measures resulted in a 13 per cent reduction in complaints.
