Any increase in mobile call and internet package prices in Egypt will be directly linked to recent hikes in fuel, gas, and electricity costs, along with rising operating and import expenses, a senior Vodafone Egypt executive said on Monday.
Ayman El-Saadany, Head of External Affairs at Vodafone Egypt, told Ahram Online that telecom operators are awaiting approval from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) before implementing any changes. He confirmed that all four mobile operators in the country have submitted tariff adjustment requests.
El-Saadany said the applications were driven by higher operating costs resulting from increased energy prices. He was speaking during a press briefing on the sidelines of the Vodafone Media Forum in Aswan, which concludes on Tuesday.
Commenting on the government’s economic strategy that prioritises the ICT sector, El-Saadany said Vodafone Egypt’s contribution will focus on providing technological solutions to help achieve the sector’s targeted 20 percent growth.
On the ongoing debate over ending customs exemptions for mobile phones brought into Egypt by travellers, he said telecom operators are in discussions with the NTRA on the possibility of manufacturing affordable devices locally to serve low- and middle-income segments.
El-Saadany revealed that Vodafone Egypt recorded revenues of approximately EGP 55 billion in fiscal year 2025, representing a 46.1 percent increase year-on-year. He attributed the growth to market expansion and rising domestic demand.
He said the results were supported by sustained investment in network infrastructure, improved digital service quality, and the expansion of technology solutions for both individual and corporate customers, adding that customer experience remains a core priority.
Vodafone Egypt’s customer base has reached around 53 million mobile and internet users, making it the country’s largest operator by subscriber numbers.
In digital financial services, El-Saadany said Vodafone Cash now serves around 11 million users, with e-wallets increasingly used for payments, transfers, and bill settlements.
He also noted that Vodafone Egypt has partnered with about 300 healthcare facilities nationwide to deliver digital solutions, benefiting more than 13 million people.
The company plans to continue investing in technology and innovation as part of Egypt’s broader digital transformation agenda.
