Astranis adds Oman customer to summer GEO launch lineup

Astranis has added an Oman-based customer to its upcoming summer geostationary satellite launch, announcing a major contract with industrial conglomerate MB Group.

The agreement, revealed on January 26 in the presence of MB Group leadership and Omani government officials, covers the delivery of a small geostationary broadband satellite. Astranis CEO John Gedmark said the deal is part of a broader $200 million investment that includes the satellite, ground stations, and associated connectivity infrastructure.

The project is designed to support Oman’s national strategy to diversify its economy beyond oil and gas by strengthening digital infrastructure and expanding broadband access.

The Oman satellite will join four other Block 3 satellites scheduled to launch together this summer on a dedicated SpaceX Falcon 9 mission. These include two satellites for Mexico’s Apco Networks and one each for Thailand’s Thaicom and Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom.

Astranis had previously planned to deploy a second satellite for Orbits Corp of the Philippines as part of the same Block 3 batch.

An Astranis spokesperson said the company works closely with customers to adjust launch assignments based on timing needs, noting that the ability to shift satellites between upcoming missions is a key advantage of its deployment model.

With the addition of Oman, Astranis continues to expand its global footprint, positioning its small GEO satellites as a flexible, cost-effective alternative for countries and operators seeking rapid broadband deployment.
