CA inaugurates e-Learning Programme in three hill districts

Chattogram, Bangladesh — January 28, 2026

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus formally inaugurated an e-Learning Programme in 12 schools across the three hill districts of Chattogram on January 27, launching the initiative virtually from the state guest house Jamuna.

The programme begins in three primary and nine secondary schools in Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban. It will be rolled out in phases to 149 selected schools across the hill districts within the shortest possible time, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

Dr Yunus interacted live with teachers and students during the launch, acknowledging long-standing gaps in digital access in the region. “The internet has reached the whole world, but it has not reached your areas. The government is responsible for this not happening for so long. We apologise,” he said.

“Today we started with only 12 schools, whereas it should have started in 3,500 schools. We have to reach that goal very quickly,” he added.

Highlighting the challenges faced by remote communities, Dr Yunus said many qualified teachers are reluctant to serve in the hill districts due to isolation. “The beauty of the internet is that you will no longer have to depend on just one teacher. A teacher can teach you from anywhere in the world. You will be able to study with the teacher of your choice,” he said, assuring students that teacher shortages would no longer compromise educational quality.

He also pointed to healthcare as another critical area where connectivity can transform lives. “If there is internet, you will be able to communicate with doctors wherever they are and receive advice and medicines,” he noted.

Reaffirming equality and inclusion, Dr Yunus said, “We are all citizens of this country. You will enjoy the same rights that other citizens enjoy. There is no reason for you to remain deprived. You will enjoy equal opportunities.”

E-learning activities have begun at schools including Rani Dayamoyee High School, Kaptai Al-Amin Nuria Dakhil Madrasah, Farua Junior Secondary School, and Islamabad Government Primary School in Rangamati; Kamalchari Pilot High School, Hajachhari Junior High School, Manikchari Girls’ High School, and Pujgang Mukh Government Primary School in Khagrachhari; and Balaghata Ideal School, Haji Firoza Begum Wami Academy, Tindu Junior High School, and Bogamukh Para Government Primary School in Bandarban.

Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma said the initiative marks a turning point for the region. “A new horizon is opening in education in the hill regions,” he said, adding that the government is committed to ensuring the hill tracts are fully connected with the rest of Bangladesh and the world.

Teachers and students participating in the launch expressed gratitude to the Chief Adviser for bringing digital learning to their schools.
