Morocco Shares National Strategy Towards Women Empowerment at OIC Conference in Cairo

Morocco’s Minister of Solidarity, Social Inclusion, and Family, Naima Ben Yahya, presented the country’s approach to women’s empowerment at an OIC conference in Cairo, highlighting how media, culture, and religious discourse are being used to challenge stereotypes and promote gender equality.

Chairing a session on the role of media and arts in shaping societal perceptions, the minister outlined Morocco’s strategy of combining international commitments with national context, guided by constitutional principles and the country’s broader reform agenda under King Mohammed VI.

She pointed to initiatives that promote positive representation of women across sectors, as well as awareness campaigns led by the Ministry of Religious Endowments and Islamic Affairs. These include Friday sermons addressing violence against women and the training of female religious guides (Mourchidat) who engage communities with messages supporting dignity, equality, and social participation.

The discussion also addressed the role of digital platforms and cross-border media in shaping perceptions, with calls for greater cooperation among OIC countries to promote constructive content and counter harmful narratives.
