Mobile subscriptions increase 7% to 8.05mn

Oman’s telecommunications sector recorded steady growth in 2025, with total mobile subscriptions increasing 7% year on year to reach 8.05 million, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

The expansion was driven largely by machine-to-machine (M2M) connections, which surged 42% to more than 1.63 million subscriptions, reflecting growing adoption of IoT and connected services. Postpaid subscriptions rose 3% to 1.27 million, while prepaid subscriptions recorded a modest 1% increase to 5.15 million.

Internet usage also continued to expand, with active mobile broadband subscriptions reaching 5.42 million and fixed broadband subscriptions increasing 3% to nearly 599,000. Fibre optic connections showed strong momentum, rising 9% to 356,897 subscriptions, while fixed 5G subscriptions grew marginally to 219,862.

At the same time, legacy technologies continued to decline, with fixed 4G subscriptions falling 53% and DSL subscriptions dropping 34%, highlighting the market’s transition toward fibre, advanced mobile networks and IoT-driven connectivity. Satellite internet subscriptions also recorded significant growth, albeit from a small base, indicating increased connectivity demand in remote and specialised use cases.
