Nokia and T964 partner to update Iraq’s digital infrastructure

Nokia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Iraqi technology and infrastructure investment group T964 to support the modernisation of Iraq’s telecommunications and digital infrastructure. The collaboration aims to address infrastructure gaps and strengthen the country’s digital foundations as demand for advanced connectivity and digital services continues to grow.

Under the agreement, the two companies will work together to deploy connectivity solutions across multiple areas, including enterprise networks, data centres, international transit infrastructure, and fibre-to-the-home services. The initiative is expected to support expanding requirements for digital banking, e-government platforms, cloud adoption, and enterprise digital transformation across Iraq’s public and private sectors.

The MoU was signed during the Datacloud Middle East event in Dubai, although financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. The partnership reflects broader efforts to enhance Iraq’s core digital infrastructure and improve service reliability, scalability, and access to high-speed connectivity nationwide.

The collaboration also aligns with Iraq’s ambitions to position itself as a regional digital transit corridor linking the Gulf region with Turkey and Europe. Strengthening connectivity infrastructure and data exchange capabilities is seen as a key step toward enabling cross-border digital traffic and attracting investment into the country’s emerging digital economy.

The announcement follows several recent developments supporting this strategy, including agreements to land new subsea cables in Iraq and earlier cooperation between Nokia and the Iraqi government to establish the country’s first data centres. Together, these initiatives signal growing momentum behind Iraq’s efforts to modernise its digital ecosystem and expand its role within regional connectivity networks.
