Pakistan to Launch 5G Pilot Projects in Major Cities Next Week

The Pakistani government has announced that 5G pilot projects will commence in major cities across the country starting next week, following the successful completion of a landmark spectrum auction. Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, shared that the auction generated $510 million (approximately Rs142 billion) through the sale of 480 MHz of Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) spectrum.

This milestone was achieved with coordinated efforts from the PTA and the Frequency Allocation Board, alongside the cooperation of the Armed Forces in vacating necessary frequency bands. While pilot testing begins immediately in urban centers like Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, a full commercial rollout—including all provincial capitals—is expected within the next six to eight months.
