Technology empowers Omani creators with disabilities

Muscat, March 25, 2026 — Digital transformation is increasingly enabling individuals with disabilities in Oman to overcome barriers and participate more actively in society through technology-driven innovation.

From assistive tools to creative platforms, technology is opening new pathways for independence, productivity, and artistic expression. Visually impaired programmer Ali Al Amri highlighted how advancements—from screen readers to AI-powered image recognition—have transformed access to information and digital environments, allowing greater professional and personal engagement.

Al Amri has also developed a practical digital platform to manage home maintenance tasks, demonstrating how accessibility technologies can inspire innovation that addresses everyday challenges.

In the creative space, designers and artists are leveraging digital tools to redefine artistic expression. Graphic designer Tariq Al Yousfi integrates Omani heritage with modern digital design, while visual artist Samah Al Hootiya uses interactive art to create immersive experiences that transcend language barriers and connect audiences through universal expression.

Entrepreneur Abdullah Al Sulaimani has also built a successful media career despite physical challenges, using his platform to promote local talent and advocate for greater inclusion through training, mentorship, and real-world opportunities.

While challenges such as accessibility gaps and high equipment costs persist, ongoing technological advancements and supportive initiatives are expected to further empower individuals with disabilities, reinforcing technology’s role as a key enabler of inclusion and creativity in Oman.
