SLT-Mobitel Reports Strong Q1 2026 Revenue and Profit Growth Amid Sri Lanka’s Digital Infrastructure Expansion

Sri Lanka’s SLT-Mobitel has reported strong financial growth for the first quarter of 2026, reflecting continued momentum in broadband, enterprise services, and digital infrastructure investments as the country accelerates its digital transformation agenda.

The telecom operator announced robust increases in both revenue and profitability during the quarter, supported by rising demand for connectivity services, expanding data consumption, and ongoing modernization across its fixed and mobile networks.

According to the company, group revenue for the first quarter reached Rs. 29.97 billion, representing year-on-year growth, while profitability also improved significantly compared to the same period last year.

SLT-Mobitel attributed the performance to continued growth in fiber broadband adoption, enterprise digital solutions, and mobile data usage across Sri Lanka’s consumer and business segments.

The operator has continued investing in network expansion and service modernization as telecom providers across South Asia position themselves to support increasing demand for cloud services, digital commerce, hybrid work environments, and streaming consumption.

The company’s fixed broadband and fiber infrastructure businesses remained key contributors during the quarter, reflecting the growing strategic importance of high-speed connectivity infrastructure in Sri Lanka’s digital economy plans.

SLT-Mobitel also emphasized its focus on operational efficiency and digital service innovation as operators navigate competitive pressures and evolving customer expectations in the telecommunications sector.

Sri Lanka’s telecom industry has increasingly shifted toward data-centric revenue models, with operators investing heavily in fiber deployment, mobile broadband capacity, enterprise ICT services, and digital platforms to strengthen long-term growth.

The latest results come as Sri Lanka continues broader efforts to strengthen national digital infrastructure and improve connectivity access across urban and underserved regions.

Telecommunications operators in the country are also expected to play a central role in supporting future smart city initiatives, e-government services, fintech expansion, and enterprise digitisation programs.

Editor’s Note

SLT-Mobitel’s latest quarterly performance reflects a wider regional trend where telecom operators are increasingly evolving into digital infrastructure providers. Revenue growth is no longer being driven purely by traditional voice services. Fiber expansion, enterprise ICT, and digital ecosystem services are becoming the core growth engines shaping South Asia’s next phase of telecom transformation.
