Batelco Partners with Qareeb Data Centers to Launch Bahrain’s First White Space Data Centre

Batelco, part of the Beyon Group, has announced a partnership with Qareeb Data Centers to establish Bahrain’s first White Space Data Centre. This initiative is part of Beyon’s Data Oasis project, which follows a significant investment in global connectivity and digital infrastructure made last year. Once completed, the data centre is expected to become the largest technology hub in Bahrain.

Qareeb, an emerging startup headquartered in Bahrain, aims to become a leading edge service provider focused on the GCC region, Egypt, and Jordan. The company’s strategic focus is to deliver tailored edge solutions that meet the unique needs of the region.

The agreement was signed by Batelco CEO Maitham Abdulla and Qareeb Data Centers Chief Strategy Officer Annemarie Van Zadelhoff at the ongoing Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2024, with senior officials from both companies in attendance. Under this partnership, Batelco and Qareeb Data Centers will explore various initiatives, including the establishment of colocation services in Bahrain and the implementation of data centre projects across the region.

Additionally, the collaboration will assess the feasibility of offering managed digital services to targeted customers, complementing both companies’ existing service portfolios. Abdulla noted that this partnership aligns with Beyon’s strategy to expand its presence in the digital infrastructure and data centre market. “We continue to seek partnerships that can positively influence these initiatives,” he stated.

Van Zadelhoff emphasized the significant growth in the regional data centre market and the increasing customer demands for local edge colocation facilities. “We are excited to collaborate with Batelco, which provides an excellent foundation for our regional expansion plans,” he added.
