stc has inaugurated two major digital infrastructure projects in Bahrain, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and drive digital transformation. The projects, part of a $300 million investment, include the launch of the 2Africa Pearl subsea cable system—one of the world’s longest subsea cables—and a state-of-the-art Data Centre Park.
The 2Africa Pearl cable, spanning over 45,000 kilometers, extends connectivity from Bahrain across the Arabian Gulf, India, Pakistan, Africa, and Europe, providing speeds of up to 180 terabits per second (tbps). This expansion supports stc’s goal to position itself as a leader in ICT-driven growth and digital transformation across business sectors.
In addition to connectivity advancements, the cable project is expected to create jobs and offer training for Bahrain’s future ICT professionals, aligning with stc’s commitment to local workforce development.
The Data Centre Park, covering 55,000 square meters, is designed to meet high-performance computing needs for local content providers and global enterprises. With the capacity to scale up to 60 megawatts of IT load, it incorporates energy-efficient features to support Bahrain’s commitment to net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
The inauguration event was attended by stc Group Chairman Prince Mohammed K. A. Al Faisal and various government representatives, underscoring the significance of these projects in strengthening Bahrain’s digital economy.
