Manama, Bahrain – Beyon, a leading telecom and technology group in Bahrain, has announced a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts with the launch of the region’s first off-grid mobile site powered entirely by renewable energy. This achievement, accomplished through its telecommunications arm Batelco, reinforces Beyon’s commitment to environmental responsibility and technological innovation.

The off-grid mobile site utilizes a combination of solar and wind energy to operate independently of traditional power sources. This innovative solution results in a substantial reduction of carbon emissions, estimated at 280 tonnes annually, and conserves 400 MWh of energy per site. Additionally, it eliminates noise pollution, making it suitable for deployment in various locations.

“In the telecom industry, operators often depend on conventional energy sources which lead to high carbon emissions and noise pollution,” said Rashed Mohamed, Chief Technology Officer at Batelco. “Batelco is thrilled with the performance of its first-off grid site and is excited to expand its renewable energy initiatives to mobile sites across the kingdom, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and innovation.”

This initiative aligns with Beyon’s broader sustainability strategy, which focuses on integrating environmentally friendly practices into its operations. By leveraging renewable energy sources, Batelco aims to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to a greener future.

“By integrating renewable energy sources into our mobile site infrastructure, we strive to set a new standard for eco-friendly operations, contributing to a greener, more sustainable future for all,” added Mohamed. “This demonstrates how technology and sustainability can complement each other, benefitting both the environment and our business.”

This achievement positions Beyon as a leader in sustainable innovation within the telecommunications industry. The company’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and promote environmentally responsible practices are contributing to a more sustainable future for Bahrain and the region.
