Key Takeaways:

  • Tier III Certification: Telecom Egypt’s Regional Data Hub 2 (RDH 2) receives the Uptime Institute’s Tier III Design Certification, ensuring it meets global standards for data center design.
  • Increased Capacity: RDH 2 is designed to support a larger IT load than its predecessor, addressing the growing demand for reliable data center services in the region.
  • Sustainability Focus: Telecom Egypt has also registered RDH 2 for LEED certification, demonstrating its commitment to environmentally friendly operations.

Cairo, Egypt – Telecom Egypt has announced that its Regional Data Hub 2 (RDH 2) has received the Tier III Design Certification from the Uptime Institute. This certification confirms that the facility’s design meets stringent global standards for data centers, covering key aspects such as mechanical, electrical, structural, and site criteria.

This achievement follows the success of Telecom Egypt’s Regional Data Hub 1 (RDH 1), which also achieved Tier III certification and reached full capacity within a year of operation. RDH 2 is designed to support an IT load of 4.6 MW, a significant increase from RDH 1’s 2.5 MW, addressing the growing demand for reliable data center services.

“This certification confirms that the facility meets established global standards for data center design, covering mechanical, electrical, structural, and site criteria,” stated the press release, highlighting the importance of meeting international standards.

In addition to the Tier III certification, Telecom Egypt has also registered RDH 2 for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmentally friendly operations.

RDH 2 is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025. Once completed, it will leverage 13 submarine cable systems landing on Egypt’s eastern coast, with plans to increase this number to 18 by 2025. This expansion will enhance Egypt’s role as a key hub for regional and international connectivity, providing critical infrastructure to support the growing digital economy.

By investing in state-of-the-art data centers like RDH 2, Telecom Egypt is strengthening its position as a leading provider of digital infrastructure in the region. The company’s commitment to meeting international standards and incorporating sustainable practices is contributing to the development of a robust and reliable digital ecosystem in Egypt.
