UAE Ranks as Global Digital Leader in Emerging Digital Powerhouse Index

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has solidified its position as a global digital leader, topping Airgain’s Emerging Digital Powerhouse Index. The country combines fast, affordable internet with a tech-savvy population, driving the growth of the knowledge economy. The index evaluated factors such as mobile internet speeds, digital skills, 5G deployment, affordability, and educational progress.

The UAE ranks first, followed by Finland, South Korea, the United States, and Denmark, among others. The UAE leads in 5G connectivity and boasts average mobile download speeds of 413Mbps, surpassing Qatar’s 350Mbps and Kuwait’s 257Mbps. It also excels in broadband affordability and a highly skilled digital workforce.

Ali Sadri, CTO of Airgain, explained that the research aimed to identify countries that provide not only fast internet but also accessible and affordable connectivity for a digitally educated population ready to capitalize on the knowledge economy. The findings underscore the Middle East’s rapid technological advancement and its growing role in the global digital economy.

Countries with fast, reliable internet access see innovation thrive, transforming industries such as healthcare, education, and technology. The UAE’s position reflects its progress in the digital space, making it a crucial player in the global digital economy.

Meanwhile, Italy is the only European country in the bottom 10, while emerging economies like India and Indonesia face significant challenges in digital infrastructure and education, which has contributed to their lower rankings.

The report suggests that countries aiming to improve their digital standing should prioritize digital literacy, infrastructure improvements, and investments in mobile technology. With the upcoming demand for 6G, the need for expertise in next-generation technologies will grow, offering emerging nations opportunities to close the gap and create a more digitally inclusive future.
