Nokia Launches ‘NextGen Lab’ in Riyadh to Drive Saudi Arabia’s Digital Transformation

Nokia has launched a ‘NextGen Lab’ in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, offering a dynamic space for local businesses and partners to explore the latest in mobile network technologies. Located in the heart of Riyadh’s technology hub, Laysen Valley, the lab aims to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure goals under Vision 2030.

The Lab addresses the growing demand for advanced mobile network technologies in the region, driven by initiatives like OPEN RAN, the rollout of private networks, and the widespread deployment of 5G & 5G-SA across Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. These developments highlight the need for innovative solutions that can keep pace with the increasing connectivity demands of society.

In partnership with leading tech companies like Dell Technologies, the lab will showcase Open RAN, a technology that promotes flexible, interoperable networks. This demonstration will feature Nokia’s anyRAN approach, emphasizing industry collaboration and multivendor interoperability. The lab will also showcase advanced carrier aggregation technologies designed to deliver high-speed, efficient connectivity.

Furthermore, the NextGen Lab will serve as a platform for developing and testing smart city applications that enable industries to explore new business models, optimize operations, and enhance security. Additionally, it will focus on solutions to help Saudi Arabia meet its environmental goals, researching energy-efficient technologies to reduce carbon emissions and optimize energy use.

While based in Saudi Arabia, the Nokia NextGen Lab is accessible to Nokia’s partners across the MEA region, offering businesses and governments access to cutting-edge connectivity solutions.

Ali Jitawi, Market Unit Head of Mobile Networks at Nokia in Saudi Arabia, highlighted that Saudi Arabia’s ambitions under Vision 2030 make it an ideal location for the NextGen Lab. He noted that the lab is not only a demonstration of Nokia’s commitment to the Kingdom’s vision but also a hands-on resource to empower local industries to unlock the full potential of modern connectivity. The launch underscores Nokia’s dedication to advancing Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the region’s digital transformation journey.
