Muscat: Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has reported that over 773,000 residential units across the country are now equipped with fiber optic networks, according to its latest annual report. This development marks a significant increase in high-speed internet access for households in Oman.
The report also highlighted that the country now has 5,238 stations providing 5G mobile services, further enhancing connectivity and digital infrastructure.
In 2023, the percentage of families using fixed broadband services rose to 80 percent, up from 75.5 percent in 2022, indicating a growing reliance on stable internet connections.
The number of mobile phone users in Oman has also seen an increase, rising to 6,984,826 in 2023 from 6,749,535 in 2022.
The telecommunications sector in Oman generated total revenues of 878.5 million in 2023, a notable increase compared to 794.9 million in 2020, 775.6 million in 2021, and 774.3 million in 2022.
However, the TRA noted that major complaints against telecommunication service providers included issues related to anti-competitive pricing and violations of regulatory obligations.
