Saudi Students Shine with Three Bronze Medals at IOAA 2024 in Brazil

The Saudi Astronomy Team has secured three bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2024), held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This remarkable achievement concludes a rigorous and eventful journey where high school students were meticulously prepared through training camps, organized in collaboration between the Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) and the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).

The Olympiad featured fierce competition, with 260 students from 53 countries participating. Representing Saudi Arabia, Fajr Al-Obaidan, Hussein Al-Mubarak, and Jude Al-Luhyani earned bronze medals after advancing through multiple qualifying stages and completing over 500 hours of intensive training. The students demonstrated their skills in astronomical observation, celestial mechanics, astrophysics, and cosmology.

CST, as a key regulator in the Space sector, plays a vital role in offering training and educational programs that prepare national talents to stay abreast of rapid developments in the field, unlocking promising opportunities in Space for the future.
