Kuwait Launches First Fiber Optic Cable Manufacturing Company in Collaboration with South Korea

Ministry of Commerce and Industry Undersecretary Ziad Al-Najem confirmed the government’s commitment to diversifying and supporting industrial activities as part of Kuwait’s Vision 2035. This was highlighted during the inauguration of Taihan Kuwait Fiber Optics Cable Company, Kuwait’s first fiber optic cable manufacturer. The new company was established in partnership with South Korea’s Taihan Cable and Solution Company and Rank General Trading and Contracting Company.

Al-Najem emphasized the importance of facilitating the establishment of such companies, reflecting the country’s drive toward fiber optic technology as part of its national transformation plan. He noted that the launch of this fiber optic company marks a significant step in Kuwait’s industrial growth, aligning with Vision 2035’s goal of advancing telecommunications infrastructure.

Chairman of Taihan Kuwait Fiber Optics Cable Company, Eng. Atallah Al-Mutairi, highlighted fiber optic cables’ vital role in modern communication, supporting rapid data transfer across wide distances with high bandwidth. He stressed the positive impact this development will have on Kuwait’s wired and wireless communications sectors.

Ambassador of South Korea, Park Chongsuk, praised the longstanding cooperation between Kuwait and South Korea, emphasizing the role of Kuwaiti oil in supporting his country’s economy and the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations. He also pointed out the potential for fiber optic cable production to expand internationally, contributing to Kuwait’s development as a regional trade and industry hub.

Eng. Abdullah Khaled Al-Ajmi, Acting Chairman of CITRA, described the company as a key player in developing Kuwait’s telecommunications sector, providing opportunities for national workers and attracting sustainable foreign investments.

Taihan Cable & Solution Company CEO, Song Jong-Min, announced that the company is ready to begin production after three years of preparation, with plans to supply high-quality fiber optic cables across Kuwait and eventually expand into the wider GCC region.
