Oracle and AWS Launch Oracle Database@AWS to Enhance Cloud Integration and Flexibility

Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced the launch of Oracle Database@AWS, a groundbreaking service that integrates Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service within AWS infrastructure. This new offering is designed to provide a seamless experience for customers leveraging Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AWS capabilities, simplifying database management, billing, and support.

Oracle Database@AWS aims to unify enterprise data management by enabling connections between Oracle databases and various AWS services, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Analytics, and advanced AI and machine learning platforms such as Amazon Bedrock. This integration allows for the creation of comprehensive enterprise data environments that support innovative applications while maintaining low latency and high network performance.

Customers can now enjoy the robust features of Oracle Autonomous Database—a fully managed service known for its automation and optimized performance—along with the scalability and security of Oracle Exadata Database Service, all while benefiting from the agility and comprehensive solutions offered by AWS.

Larry Ellison, Oracle’s Chairman and CTO, highlighted the significant customer demand for multi-cloud capabilities and stated, “This collaboration with Amazon allows us to deliver top-tier Oracle Database technology, including Oracle Autonomous Database, within AWS data centers, optimizing database and network performance.”

Matt Garman, CEO at AWS, emphasized the longstanding relationship between AWS and Oracle, which has evolved to meet the growing needs of security-sensitive and large-scale enterprises by hosting Oracle workloads on AWS.

The collaboration introduces several customer benefits:

  • Direct, zero-ETL integration between Oracle Database services and AWS Analytics services, facilitating seamless data connections and analysis.
  • Flexible migration options that simplify the transition of Oracle databases to the cloud with tools like Oracle Zero Downtime Migration.
  • A streamlined procurement process through AWS Marketplace, allowing customers to purchase Oracle Database services using existing AWS commitments and Oracle license benefits.
  • Comprehensive support and integration services, including backups and disaster recovery with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).

Oracle Database@AWS is set to be available in preview later this year, with a broader rollout planned for 2025 as the service expands into new regions to better serve global customers. This partnership marks a significant step forward in cloud computing, offering enhanced scalability, reliability, and integration capabilities for enterprise users.
