At the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum in Qingdao, China, Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah, highlighted significant advancements in women’s empowerment in Kuwait. Speaking at the event held from September 10-12, she emphasized that these achievements are rooted in the constitutional commitment to gender equity and the extensive educational attainment among Kuwaiti women, with 99% having completed their education.
Sheikha Jawaher revealed that 70% of Kuwait’s students and researchers in STEM fields are female, showcasing the country’s dedication to fostering female participation in science and technology. She praised the national initiatives such as “Coded Academy X,” aimed at enhancing tech skills among women, particularly in artificial intelligence.
The Assistant Foreign Minister also acknowledged the private sector’s vital role in supporting women, mentioning Kuwait’s economic platform that includes participation from 40 private sector firms focused on female economic empowerment. She reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to the UN sustainable goals and the 2035 vision, which significantly focus on gender equity.
Additionally, she noted significant state investments that promote equal opportunities for women across various sectors. Highlighting May 16 as Kuwaiti Women’s Day, Sheikha Jawaher reiterated Kuwait’s resolve to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women, aligning with international partnerships and cooperative agreements, including their recent engagement with the SCO as a dialogue partner in 2023.
