Mohamed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, Bahrain’s Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, participated in the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Digital Skills Forum, organized by Bahrain’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in collaboration with the ITU. The forum, which drew ministers, heads of authorities from ITU member states, and industry experts, focused on enhancing digital skills across the globe.
During the event, Minister Al Kaabi emphasized the Bahraini government’s dedication to digital education for the youth, a commitment spearheaded by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The minister outlined various national initiatives aimed at closing the digital skills gap and fostering innovation through partnerships with the private sector. These initiatives are designed to equip young talent with necessary skills for succeeding in the digital era.
The forum spanned three days and covered key topics such as skill development for digital transformation, bridging the digital divide, the influence of emerging technologies, transitioning to a digital economy, promoting environmental sustainability, and ensuring safe online environments.
Highlighting Bahrain’s achievements, the Minister mentioned that Bahrain’s Sixth National Telecommunications Plan (2023-2026) received the 2024 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize from the United Nations, acknowledging its efforts to foster innovation in telecommunications and IT, enhance digital skills, and support the strategic vision outlined in Bahrain’s Vision 2030 and the 2023-2026 ICT strategic plan.
