At the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Qatar participated in a pivotal panel discussion entitled “Laying the Foundation for a Digital Future for All.” The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, HE Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, represented Qatar, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to shaping a secure and inclusive digital future.
The panel, supported by key UN entities such as the United Nations Development Program, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and the International Telecommunication Union, addressed digital technology, peace and security, and sustainable development with a focus on financing. These discussions highlighted the Global Digital Compact’s potential and practical AI applications.
On the sidelines, HE Al Mannai met with HE Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, to discuss strengthening global digital connectivity and fostering technological innovation. They explored collaborative initiatives aimed at digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, HE Al Mannai engaged with HE Amandeep Singh Gill, Head of the Secretariat of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation. Their conversation centered on enhancing digital transformation strategies, capacity building in the digital sector, and developing telecommunication infrastructure to support the Sustainable Development Goals.
This year’s UN General Assembly, under the theme “Unity in Diversity: Promoting Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for All, Everywhere,” will host general debates from September 24 to 30, focusing on critical global challenges and solutions.
