Local mobile assembly and manufacturers in Pakistan produced 20.44 million mobile phones between January and August 2024. Of these, 12.73 million were smartphones, while 7.71 million were 2G devices. Additionally, 1.1 million phones were imported during the same period.
Infinix led the production figures with 2.77 million units, followed by Itel at 2.38 million and VGO TEL at 2.19 million. Despite this output, production has been declining since 2022 due to economic challenges and rising interest rates.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) previously reported 24.66 million devices manufactured in 2021, a figure that dropped to 21.28 million in 2023, reflecting a 13.71% decrease. Commercial imports have also sharply declined, from 24.51 million in 2020 to just 1.58 million in 2023, attributed to central bank restrictions aimed at reducing the outflow of foreign currency.
With the growing availability of internet services, smartphone usage in Pakistan’s network has risen to 62% in 2024, compared to 59% in 2023 and 56% in 2022. Meanwhile, 2G device usage has dropped to 38%, down from 41% in 2023 and 44% in 2022.
