Tunisia is set to introduce 5G technology as part of its strategy to enhance digital infrastructure and expand high-speed network coverage nationwide. Communication Technologies Minister Sofiene Hemissi emphasized the importance of 5G in driving digital transformation across multiple sectors. The Tunisian government expects to license and launch ultra-broadband marketing by the end of the year.
On Monday, three telecom providers—Tunisie Telecom, Ooredoo Tunisie, and Orange Tunisie—officially submitted applications for the 5G license tender, which was launched in July. As of February 29, 2024, Tunisia has 16.26 million mobile subscribers, with a penetration rate of 136.5%, and 11.58 million mobile internet subscribers, with a rate of 97.2%. A technical committee formed in May 2023 will assess the studies conducted and determine the future direction of 5G deployment in Tunisia.
