Rabat — Morocco has taken a major step toward modernizing its local retail sector through a new partnership between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and tech startup z.systems. The agreement, signed Tuesday in Salé, seeks to digitize tens of thousands of neighborhood shops across the country, accelerating their integration into the digital economy.
z.systems operates a digital platform that connects brands, distributors, and local retailers, enabling smoother supply chain management, digital payments, and data-driven decision-making. By working with the government, the startup aims to provide shopkeepers with tools that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and expand access to customers and suppliers.
Officials emphasized that the partnership is part of Morocco’s broader national strategy to empower small businesses, enhance competitiveness, and promote digital inclusion across traditional retail sectors. By bringing technology to neighborhood shops, the initiative is expected to create new opportunities for merchants while supporting Morocco’s digital transformation agenda.
