‘Hithawathi’ by FOUNDATION.LK Marks 11 Years of Empowering Sri Lankans Through Cyber Safety and Digital Awareness

Colombo, November 11, 2025 — Hithawathi, one of the flagship initiatives of FOUNDATION.LK, has completed 11 years of impactful service in promoting cyber safety and digital empowerment across Sri Lanka. Established as a national social empowerment project, Hithawathi focuses on providing emotional and technical support to individuals — particularly women and children — affected by online abuse and cyber violence.

The name Hithawathi, meaning “female confidante” in Sinhala, reflects the initiative’s compassionate and trustworthy approach to assisting victims of cyber threats. Through its free and confidential Help Desk, available via hotline, email, live chat, and popular messaging platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Viber), Hithawathi offers support in Sinhala, Tamil, and English. The service is primarily operated by female officers trained to respond sensitively to distressing situations and guide victims toward resolution.

Beyond direct assistance, Hithawathi has emerged as a national leader in digital literacy and cyber safety education, conducting awareness sessions in schools and communities in partnership with SLCERT, TechCERT, Sri Lanka Police, and the Ministry of Education. Its outreach includes 1.49 million+ netizens engaged, 16,500+ individuals supported, 1,250+ events, and 1,800+ educational articles published.

Marking its 10th anniversary last year, Hithawathi has expanded its influence as part of FOUNDATION.LK’s broader mission to build a safe, inclusive, and responsible digital society in Sri Lanka. Supported by the LK Domain Registry, the foundation continues to champion secure internet practices and foster responsible digital citizenship nationwide.
