Ooredoo Algeria deploys NEC next-generation firewalls across internal network

Ooredoo Algeria has deployed next-generation firewalls from NEC across its internal network infrastructure, modernising its enterprise security architecture to support growing traffic volumes and the operator’s expanding digital services portfolio, the companies announced.

NEC supplied end-to-end network architecture design, professional services and implementation across multiple sites, covering both central and edge environments. The solution provides high throughput, session scalability and application-level traffic control, reducing the complexity of managing security across a distributed operator network.

“This modernisation reinforces our ability to deliver faster and more reliable mobile and digital services to our customers across Algeria,” said Roni Tohme, CEO of Ooredoo Algeria.

Ooredoo Algeria is one of three licensed mobile operators in the country alongside Djezzy and Mobilis, the state-owned market leader. Algeria represents one of Ooredoo Group’s key North African markets, with the operator pursuing digital services expansion as part of a broader group-wide strategy to diversify revenue beyond core connectivity.

The deployment marks NEC’s continued presence in the North African operator security market, where it competes with Cisco, Fortinet and Huawei across enterprise and carrier-grade network deployments.
