Jazz completes 13MW solar deployment across 1,000 base stations in Pakistan, one year after Huawei partnership launch

Jazz has completed the deployment of solar power systems across 1,000 telecom sites nationwide in collaboration with Huawei, marking the fulfilment of a partnership first announced at Mobile World Congress in March 2025.

The completed rollout has a total installed capacity of 13MW, leveraging Huawei’s integrated green site solutions combining solar generation, battery storage and intelligent energy management. The 1,000 solar-powered sites are expected to generate approximately 11 GWh of clean energy annually and reduce carbon emissions by around 15,000 tonnes per year — described as one of the largest renewable energy deployments in Pakistan’s communications sector to date.

Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim linked the completion to the operator’s broader infrastructure resilience and sustainability agenda, aligned with parent company VEON Group’s target of carbon neutrality by 2050.

Editor’s Note: The completion of this deployment coincides with Jazz’s 5G commercial launch in March 2026, making this a notable data point: Pakistan’s largest mobile operator is simultaneously scaling its 5G footprint and greening its existing network at scale. The fuel cost reduction figure cited at the time of the agreement — up to 96 per cent at solar-equipped sites — is particularly significant given Pakistan’s current fuel supply pressures from the Iran conflict.
