Vodafone Qatar Achieves 4-Star GSAS Rating for Sustainable Office Fitout in Lusail

Vodafone Qatar has reached a significant milestone by earning the prestigious Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) Design & Build 4-star rating from the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) for the interior fitout of its headquarters in Lusail. This accomplishment underscores the company’s dedication to sustainability and innovation in its operations.

Khames al-Naimi, Chief Human Resources Officer at Vodafone Qatar, expressed pride in being the first telecommunications company to achieve the 4-star GSAS rating. He emphasized that sustainability is integral to the company’s business strategy and long-term success, further solidifying Vodafone Qatar’s leadership in sustainability within Qatar.

Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, praised Vodafone Qatar’s leadership, highlighting how the company’s efforts in adopting energy-efficient designs and responsible sourcing practices have set a benchmark for the telecom sector. He noted that the achievement reflects a long-term vision that benefits both the environment and the industry, serving as an inspiration for others to integrate sustainable practices into their business operations.

The certification process involved a detailed evaluation of Vodafone Qatar’s headquarters by GORD sustainability experts. The office features an energy-efficient thermal envelope to minimize energy consumption while ensuring indoor comfort. A smart LED lighting system, equipped with remote monitoring and dimming capabilities, helps maintain low lighting power density.

The company also prioritized air quality and energy recovery, incorporating cutting-edge Energy Recovery Units (ERUs) and a Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) to manage fresh air intake and reduce energy loss. Low-flow water fixtures and dedicated water meters on each floor reflect Vodafone Qatar’s focus on conserving resources and monitoring consumption.

In terms of sustainable sourcing, Vodafone Qatar procured approximately 26% of its major materials locally, supporting the local economy and reducing transportation-related emissions. Additionally, 11% of materials used contain recycled content, and FSC-certified timber products reinforce the company’s commitment to responsible material selection.
