Ericsson Partners with Zain Bahrain to Expand 4G and 5G Networks, Enhance Sustainability

Ericsson has signed a strategic agreement with Zain Bahrain, a leading telecom provider in the kingdom, to expand its 4G and 5G networks. This partnership will also extend their Managed Services collaboration for an additional three years, optimizing network efficiency and enhancing customer experience.

The network expansion will utilize Ericsson’s energy-efficient Radio Access Network (RAN) products, such as the dual-band Massive MIMO AIR 3229 and triple-band Radio 4466. These products will increase coverage, capacity, and reduce energy consumption by up to 20%, contributing to Zain Bahrain’s sustainability goals. This initiative is also part of the operator’s broader investment plan with Ericsson, supporting Bahrain’s digital transformation agenda.

Under the extended Managed Services contract, Ericsson will continue to utilize data-driven strategies to streamline operations, enhance service metrics, and reduce time-to-market. The agreement also includes the modernization of Zain Bahrain’s core network, incorporating Ericsson’s cloud-native Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and Unified Data Management function, which will boost network capacity and performance.

Ali Isa Al Yaham, Chief Technology Officer of Zain Bahrain, stated: “Our ongoing collaboration with Ericsson underscores our dedication to providing superior customer experiences in Bahrain. This expansion improves our coverage, capacity, and sustainability goals, driving digital transformation and strengthening our role in Bahrain’s digital future.”

Nicolas Blixell, Vice President and Head of Gulf Council Countries at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, added: “We are honored to support Zain Bahrain’s ambitious network expansion and modernization. By combining advanced technology with sustainable solutions, we are helping them deliver exceptional services and future-proof their network.”
