CAN Federation Aims to Make Nepal a Global IT Hub with New Strategic Plan

The Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) has unveiled a strategic plan aimed at transforming Nepal into a global IT hub. The plan was developed during a two-day meeting held in Hetauda, where the federation outlined its goals for the next two years to strengthen the country’s IT sector.

The meeting set the direction for policy reforms and decided to implement special programs focusing on improving existing policies, promoting technology development, fostering research, and enhancing international collaboration. President Sunaina Ghimire Pandey emphasized the importance of advancing initiatives like the Data Protection Act, E-Governance Blueprint, Ride Sharing Act, and measures to combat cybersecurity threats. Additionally, the federation will promote Made in Nepal software, standardize ICT, establish an IT board, and revise the broadband internet tax.

To attract foreign investment, the CAN Federation has announced plans to offer up to five percent equity in the IT industry and lobby for tax exemptions. The federation is committed to enhancing Nepal’s digital economy by fostering a competitive and innovative IT industry that can thrive on the global stage.

Outgoing President Ranjit Kumar Podar also stressed the need for policy development to increase the technology sector’s economic contribution, highlighting the importance of digital literacy, innovation, and global partnerships for the future success of the IT industry in Nepal.
