TAQA and ACWA Power Awarded Mega Green Hydrogen Projects in Morocco Worth $32 Billion

Abu Dhabi-based TAQA and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power are among several international companies awarded major green hydrogen projects in Morocco, with a total investment of nearly $32 billion. These projects, located in South Morocco, are part of Morocco’s push to become a global leader in green energy.

The Moroccan government has selected a range of local and foreign companies for the construction of six hydrogen projects. Among the firms awarded are China’s United Energy Group (UEG), Germany’s Nordex, Spain’s Acciona, and local companies such as Nareva.

The ORNX consortium, made up of American firm Ortus, Spain’s Acciona, and Germany’s Nordex, will focus on ammonia production. A second consortium, led by TAQA and Spain’s Cepsa, will handle the production of ammonia and industrial fuel. Moroccan company Nareva will invest in a broad project that includes ammonia, industrial fuel, and green steel production. ACWA Power, on the other hand, will focus on green steel manufacturing.

Additionally, a Chinese consortium consisting of UEG and China Three Gorges will establish ammonia production facilities, contributing to Morocco’s ambitious green energy goals. This initiative is expected to help Morocco solidify its position as a key player in the global green hydrogen market.
