Beyond ONE’s Terrace Talks: Mind & Machine Explores the Intersection of Technology and Wellbeing

-Event brings together industry leaders to discuss how technology can drive innovation while prioritizing mental and physical wellness in the workplace-

DUBAI, UAE, 16 April 2025: Global tech company Beyond ONE, in partnership with Wellbeing at Work World Summit, hosted its latest Terrace Talks event titled “Mind & Machine” yesterday. The session explored how technology can drive innovation while prioritizing mental and physical wellness in the workplace, attracting an engaged audience that included Beyond ONE staff, partners, and industry professionals.

Building on the success of its inaugural event in January, which focused on sustainability and conservation, the April edition turned attention to the growing importance of balancing technological advancement with human-centric approaches to wellbeing.

Ella Fordham, Group Chief People Officer at Beyond ONE, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to encouraging meaningful dialogue: “Terrace Talks continues to bring together changemakers to address pressing challenges of our time. Yesterday’s discussion highlighted the critical balance needed between technological efficiency and human connection, especially in healthcare and workplace settings.”

The event featured prominent speakers across various sectors:

· Nadin Karadag, Co-founder of Valeo Health, presented on how AI and technology are transforming healthcare delivery. “Healthcare is currently disease-focused rather than preventive. AI can assist in virtual care, improve diagnostics, and provide personalized wellness guidance—but technology should be an enabler, not a replacement for human interaction,” Karadag emphasized.

· Gary Blowers, CEO of LVL, discussed redefining workplace wellbeing through technology: “I find it fascinating that we’re so obsessed on how we get the best out of AI, yet we’re not quite as obsessed on how we get the best out of ourselves. The number one critical success factor to any workplace wellbeing program is leadership buy-in and demonstration.”

· Paul Millet, Director at Cemplicity, showcased how patient-reported outcome measures and personalized care are crucial for improving health outcomes. “It’s still about people. Especially in health. It’s still about people,” Millet noted while discussing AI applications in patient-centered healthcare.

· Dr. Louise Lambert, Director of Happiness at Happiness Matters, offered a contrasting perspective with her talk on “Building Social Capital – The Anti-Tech Way.” She highlighted concerns about technology’s impact on social connection: “We always talk about well-being, but actually we’re talking about ill-being. I did not hear anybody talk about happiness, life satisfaction, positive emotional experiences.”

· Sandra Helou, Founder of MetaMinds, explored shifting perceptions of technology in wellbeing: “The way that we view tech, and how we can actually help in communication, or helping people connect more, has evolved significantly,” noting that immersive technologies can enhance rather than detract from wellbeing.

The discussions highlighted that AI can assist in healthcare through virtual care, improved diagnostics, and personalized wellness guidance, though quality data input remains crucial for effectiveness. Speakers emphasized that technology should be used as an enabler in healthcare and workplace wellbeing, not a replacement for human interaction.

The event underscored how workplace wellbeing programs supported by technology can lead to increased productivity and employee retention, while acknowledging that different generations view and adapt to technology differently.

Throughout the sessions, the importance of balancing technological efficiency with human care and interaction emerged as a central theme for both healthcare delivery and workplace environments.

The Terrace Talks series leverages Dubai’s position as a global hub to bring together thought leaders, innovators, and decision-makers tackling critical challenges—from technological disruption to economic inclusion—turning dialogue into meaningful action. The bi-monthly series will continue to address a range of global challenges throughout 2025
