China Mobile Communications Corporation Delegation Visits Pakistan to Strengthen Digital Cooperation

A high-level delegation from China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), led by Chairman Mr. Yang Jie, visited the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) and met with Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja. The visit underscored the longstanding Pak-China relations and the commitment to advancing Pakistan-China digital cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework and Pakistan’s Digital Vision.

The CMCC delegation, which included senior officials from China Mobile HQ, engaged with key representatives from the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, including the Secretary IT, Additional Secretary IT, Chairman PTA, and other senior officials. Discussions focused on collaborative efforts to develop AI-enabled, energy-efficient data centers, accelerate 5G development, and establish enhanced connectivity between Pakistan and China under the CPEC framework to improve regional connectivity.

The meeting also addressed opportunities to foster content hosting partnerships with leading Chinese digital platforms and to promote excellence in Artificial Intelligence education. These efforts align with Pakistan’s national goals of achieving 100 Mbps internet speeds, expanding fixed broadband access to 10 million households, and increasing smartphone penetration to over 85%.

Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication, expressed appreciation for CMCC’s ongoing investments in Pakistan and reiterated the Prime Minister’s vision of a digitally inclusive and empowered Pakistan. She emphasized that partnerships like this are vital for expanding access, capacity, and innovation in the country’s IT and telecom sectors.
